
Horse trekking tour Khuis lake 8 days
Day 1 Kharkhorin and Erdenezuu monastery
The sites of this ancient capital of Mongolia Kharkhorin ( spelled also Kharkhorin) and the Erdenezuu monastery with their 108 stupas are undoubtedly at great interest to travelers. Located 370 km away from Ulaanbaatar. The elevation is 1600 meters above sea level.
Genghis Khan's fabled city was founded in 1220 in the Orkhon valley, at the crossroads of the Silk Road. The building was completed by his son, Ogedei Khan, after Genghis' death, but Kharkhorin served as the capital for only 40 years before Kublai Khan moved it to what is now Beijing. Following the move, and the subsequent collapse of the Mongolian empire, Kharkhorin was abandoned and then later destroyed by hordes of Manchurian soldiers. Orkhon River in Kharkhorin soum, Uvurkhangai province is a part of the Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape World Heritage Site by UNESCO. By the summer of 1586, the first temple had been constructed, which is a small blue temple in the middle of the monastery compound, but not open to the public. 400m by 400 m fortress wall surround the monastery - the wall bears evenly spaced white stupas, 25 on each side, and two additional ones at each corner for a total of 108, although several are currently damaged or missing.
Day 2 Orkhon waterfall /Orkhon valley/
We’ll drive to Orkhon Waterfall, The Orkhon valley in the history of central Asia. The grassland is still grazed by Mongolian nomadic pastoralists. Orkhon waterfall is one of the biggest waterfalls in Mongolia. This is a great place for taking photos, go hiking through the gorge. We will meet our horse herder family and get prepared for the Horse trekking trip to Khuisiin naiman Nuur.
Day 3 Horse trekking to Khuis lake
We will start our Horse trekking trip to Khuisiin Naiman Nuur(Navel Eight Lakes). The area of Khuis Naiman Nuur, ”Eight lakes”, formed behind the volcanic eruptions that occurred all along the centuries. The park is 2400 metres above the sea level. An area of 11.500 hectares has been protected as a National Park since 1992. Today, We will arrive the first lake, Khuis lake and we will spend the night in Khuis lake. (Approx. horse back 30 km)
Day 4 Horse trekking to Shireet lake
Horse trekking to Shireet lake which is the biggest and most beautiful lake. On the way we will see the other lakes. Naiman Nuur. The area of Khuisiin Naiman Nuur (Eight Lakes), which was created by volcanic eruptions centuries ago and 3,163 metres above sea level Khuisiin Naiman Nuur (Navel Eight Lakes) is located at over 2,400 meter above sea level. Stay overnight in a tent. (Approx. horse back 20 km)
Day 5 Horse trekking to Buureg valley
We will Horse trekking back to Buureg valley. We will get to our tourist camp, take a shower and we will have real authentic Mongolian Barbecue made the traditional way and taste the favorite beverage of the nomads – airag, fermented mare’s milk.
Day 6 Tsenkher hot spring
We’ll drive to Tsenkher hot spring. We’ll have a relaxed evening taking a hot bath in the natural hot spring water. Stay overnight in the Ger camp there.
Day 7 Semi Gobi (Khugnu khan)
We will drive to Elsen Tasarkhai sand dunes which are a semi-desert typed beautiful landscape with big sand dunes. We are going to have camels riding in here. After having dinner we can hike around the sand dunes. We can possibly see the sunset brilliantly in the area.
Day 8 Khustai National Park
Khustain Nuruu is a beautiful National Park in Tuv province, one of the well-known and prestigious special protected areas in Mongolia. It is also known as Hustai National Park and located approximately 100 km west of Ulaanbaatar. The park was created as a place for the Takhi (Przewalski Horse) to be re-introduced back into Mongolia in 1992, where it had become extinct in the wild. They hide out high in the hills during the day, but in the evening they come down to the Tuul River which runs through the park.
Day 9 UB
After breakfast we will drive to Ulaanbaatar.
